Alfa Romeo Giulia Pricing Released!

Update 12/9/16 Now with Giulia vs. competition price comparison chart

Breaking news: Alfa Romeo USA has released pricing on the new Giulia lineup. We will be updating this story with more information shortly. But a tiny taste of the value offered are:

  • Class leading power and performance - For example the base Giulia -280hp and 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds
  • Leather seating standard- not vinyl like most competitors
  • Keyless entry with Push Button Start and Proximity Sensors and Remote Start - no other competitor offers all these features standard
  • Bi-Xenon Headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights - Not Halogen Headlamps like BMW, Mercedes or Jaguar
  • 7-inch TFT, Rear Backup Camera with Sensors, Bright Chrome Window Trim

2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Series Pricing*

  • Giulia $37,995, $39,995 AWD version
  • Giulia Ti $39,995, $41,995 AWD version
  • Giulia Quadrifoglio $72,000

*excludes $995 destination charge for Giulia and $1,595 for Quadrifoglio

Looking at Giulia and Giulia Ti Pricing

The Giulia lineup is simple to understand. There are three trim levels: Giulia, Giulia Ti and Giulia Quadrifoglio and three major option packages: Sport appearance for the both the Giulia and Giulia Ti and an additional Lusso and performance package available for the Giulia Ti.

All models have a high level of standard equipment and option packages that allow you to tailor the car to your personal style. The cars are so well equipped there are a limited number of individual options, and those are focused on high demand items.

The Giulia offers more standard equipment than its competitors. For example, comparing the $37,995 Giulia to the $38,750 BMW 330i, the Giulia has standard: HID headlights ( a $800 option on the BMW), Passive entry (part of a $2,450 package on the BMW), Remote Start (not available on the BMW), Leather seating (a $1,450 option on the BMW) and a Back-up Camera and Rear sensors (part of a $995 BMW package).

The Giulia also has a 280 hp / 306 lbs-ft of torque engine, while the BMW engine makes due with just 248 hp / 358 lbs-ft of torque.

The Giulia Ti also has a similar story. Comparing the $39,995 Giulia Ti to the $39,500 Mercedes C300, you may think the C300 has a $400 price advantage. However, that is until you factor the Giulia Ti comes standard with: 18-inch wheels (a $500 option on the C300), Passive Entry (part of a $1,300 package on the C300), Remote Start (not available on the C300), Leather Seating (a $2,050 option on the C300 ), Heated Seats (a $580 option on the C300), and a Heated Steering Wheel (a $250 option on the C300 ).

Alfa Romeo dealers will be getting the Giulia Quadrifoglio towards the end of this month, with deliveries of the other Giulia models arriving in January. Currently, there are 60 Giulia Quadrifoglios at the port of Baltimore and a shipment of 600 Giulia and Giulia Ti models coming in the next few weeks. Alfa Romeo currently has 156 dealers located across the country.

Now is the time to contact your Alfa Romeo dealer for additional information. The Alfa Romeo USA website has logged 65,000 handraisers for the Giulia so you may have to get in line!

Fiat Sales for November 2016

Fiat 500 Abarth

Fiat 500 sales in November were up 18 % compared to the same month a year ago. This is the second month in a row the 500 has recorded a net gain over last year. However, this good news was not able to offset slower sales of the 500L MPV and 500X crossover.

The Fiat brand sold a total of 2,415 cars last month, down 15 percent compared to November 2015. So far this year, Fiat sales are running 19 percent behind last year. Year-to-date, Fiat has sold 30,136 cars compared to the 37,303 sold over the same period last year.

Fiat 500X European Version

Much of the slowing sales has to do with cheap gas and buyers shunning smaller cars. Consumer preference shifting away from passenger cars and towards crossovers and SUVs has also impacted Fiat sales, and while the 500X crossover should be taking advantage of this change it hasn't been able to grab much of a share in the market.

Fiat 124 Spider Classic and Modern

Some of this may have to do with the relative lack of Fiat dealers compare to more established brands. For example, the rugged Jeep Renegade is built on the same chassis of the sporty 500X. So far this year Jeep has sold a total of 94,561 Renegades through its 2000 plus dealers, while Fiat has sold a total of 10,869 500Xs through about 200 dealers. Comparing Fiat's 200 dealer total to other brands like Hyundai and Kia each with about 750 plus dealers, Toyota with 1,200 and VW with 650 dealers, there is a definite lack of exposure and availability. To help counteract that, Fiat has been adding more dealers throughout the country.

Besides adding new dealers, a new pricing structure and consolidating trim levels will be introduced for the upcoming 2017 model year and is aimed at reversing this slumping sales trend. Fiat is clearing out the remaining 2016 cars before the 2017 models hit showrooms in any appreciable numbers.

Fiat 124 Spider Classic with Modern

November News Recap
November was an exciting month for Fiat enthusiasts. The Fiat 124 Spider celebrated its 50th anniversary, and we documented that here, with videos, images and more.

We talked about the upcoming 2017 model year changes for the Fiat 500X. New lower pricing and a simplified lineup are great news.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio

Speaking of great news, Alfa Romeo introduced the fantastic new Stelvio at the LA Auto Show last month. The Alfa Stelvio is a not your typical SUV. With a Ferrari derived twin-turbo engine and premium performance and luxury features, it is more ferocious sports car than jacked up utility vehicle. We have the full press event introduction and information on this important enthusiasts automobile.

Fiat 500 European Car of The Year

Finally, we looked at the awards the Fiat 500 has won since its introduction. Some cars are called award winning, but few have earned the number of awards the Fiat 500 has won.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Wins Best in Show

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio was unveiled to the world just last week and has already racked up an award. The Stelvio has won the “Best in Show” at 2016 L.A. Auto Show. The award was given by Cars.com, the well-known website that helps shoppers buy and sell cars. It was the first time Cars.com has given the award.

Aaron Bragman, Cars.com Detroit Bureau Chief, is quoted saying:

“With its sexy curves and promising performance chops, the Stelvio easily took home Cars.com's Best in Show award. Alfa Romeo's new 2018 Stelvio SUV stunned at the 2016 L.A. Auto Show.”
Alfa Stelvio Quadrifoglio Rear Quarter

Named after one of the greatest driving roads in the world, the Stelvio Pass in Italy, the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio is a mid-sized SUV that offers sports car like performance and driving pleasure. The sexy Stelvio is built off of the super capable Alfa Giulia chassis and features the advanced Q4 all-wheel-drive system and two class leading engines.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV Engine

The first is a 2 liter direct injected turbocharged unit with 280 horsepower and 306 lbs.-ft of torque. Zero to sixty is estimated at 5.4 seconds. The second engine offered is the Ferrari-derived Twin-Turbo V6 out of the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the world's fastest 4-door sedan. In the Stelvio, this direct-injected powerhouse produces 505 hp and 443 lb.-ft. of torque. The results are an astounding zero to sixty time estimated in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 177 mph.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is said to be the fastest SUV ever to lap the Nurburgring, with a top lap time of 7 minutes 59.00 seconds, smoking competitors like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S (7:59.79), Cayenne Turbo (8:13.00) and Range Rover Sport SVR (8:14.00).

Besides the outstanding performance, driving pleasure and enjoyment are priorities of the new Stelvio, and the car is loaded with premium features and amenities. You can read about the details in the following links below.

Sales of the new Alfa Romeo Stelvio in Europe are slated to begin next year.

2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Overview

Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio

The new Alfa Romeo Stelvio debuted at the 2016 LA Auto Show today. The Stelvio is named after the Stelvio Pass in Italy, one of the most beautiful and challenging roads in the world. It is fitting, because although it is an SUV, it handles and performs like a high-performance sports coupe, and in the case of the Stelvio Quadrifoglio, a supercar. This is no ordinary mid-size SUV. The Stelvio is was developed by a team of elite engineers hand picked from all over FCA and overseen by senior heads from Ferrari and built upon the chassis of the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Performance and driving characteristics set the benchmark in its segment. Performance and fuel economy of these engines are fostered by the MultiAir electro-hydraulic variable-valve actuation technology, a direct-injection system with 2,900 PSI injection pressure, a water-cooled cylinder head integrated manifold and a water-cooled charge air cooler.

Alfa Stelvio QV Engine

Best-in-class 505 horsepower all-aluminum 2.9-liter bi-turbo V-6 engine
Arriving to the premium mid-size SUV segment is the most powerful Alfa Romeo production engine ever, with an all-aluminum 2.9-liter direct-injection bi-turbo V-6 serving as the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s “heart and soul.”

Alfa Twin Turbo V6

Designed to optimize the all-new lightweight Alfa Romeo architecture, the all-aluminum 2.9-liter V-6 bi-turbo engine features a compact 90-degree layout and was holistically designed for a low center of gravity within the chassis.

To deliver a best-in-class 505 horsepower and a flat torque curve with 443 lb.-ft. of peak torque available between 2,500 – 5,500 rpm, the state-of-the-art engine features a bi-turbo design. In addition, the engine’s turbochargers are integrated into the exhaust manifold and feature a low-inertia, single-scroll turbo design with variable-boost management for ultra-responsive throttle response. A direct-injection system maximizes fuel combustion for improved engine output and efficiency.

For improved fuel efficiency, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio features a Cylinder Efficient Management (CEM) deactivation system, which enables the engine to run on three of its six cylinders.

Alfa Romeo All Wheel Drive System

Crafting control: Q4 all-wheel drive (AWD)
The intelligent Q4 all-wheel-drive system – standard on all Stelvio models, including Quadrifoglio – delivers even more all-season traction and performance capability, thanks to the system’s ability to transfer up to 60 percent of the engine’s torque to the front axle.

The innovative Q4 AWD system is linked to the Stelvio’s Chassis Domain Controller (CDC) and driver-adjustable Alfa DNA or DNA Pro (Quadrifoglio exclusive) drive mode system – enabling the driveline’s next-generation integrated actuator to adapt to changing ground conditions or driver need in milliseconds, and instantly optimize the required torque to each wheel.

Alfa Stelvio at the Stelvio Pass

Italian ingenuity with broad use of lightweight materials Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s architecture extensively integrates lightweight, state-of-the-art materials that enable and deliver near perfect 50/50 weight distribution, segment-leading torsional rigidity and the most direct steering available.
Alfa Romeo engineers designed a lightweight rear-wheel-drive platform with a low center of gravity – all to deliver the high-performance and precision expected from an Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s aluminum front and rear vehicle frames, front shock towers, brakes, suspension components, doors and fenders also help shed weight compared to conventional steel. For example, the rear cross member features an extensive use of lightweight materials, including aluminum and composite.

An Alfa Romeo exclusive double wishbone front suspension with semi-virtual steering axis guarantees rapid and accurate steering feel. With the most direct steering ratio in the segment, Alfa Romeo Stelvio can tackle high lateral accelerations as a result of the always-perfect footprint. At the rear, a patented Alfa-link rear axle design with vertical rod ensures top performance, driving pleasure and passenger ride comfort.

State-of-the-art technologies add to a premium SUV that only Italy could create Competing at a world-class level requires the highest attention to detail, including the use of next-level technologies that continually please and impress the center of Stelvio’s universe: the driver.

Q2 Mechanical Limited-Slip Differential
This new feature – included within the Performance Package – is a rear mechanical limited-slip differential that optimizes rear-wheel traction. The Q2 differential balances the machine torque, which works on the SUV’s rear axle. This system provides the proper level of torque to one of the two rear wheels based on traction conditions.

Chassis Domain Control (CDC)
The “brain” of Alfa Romeo Stelvio’s benchmark-level dynamics can be attributed to its innovative Chassis Domain Control (CDC) system. The CDC system coordinates all of the vehicle’s available active systems (stability control, torque vectoring differential and Alfa Active suspension system), using predictive-type dynamic models to deliver balanced, safe and natural driving, thus optimizing performance and drivability.

Integrated braking system (IBS)
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio features a segment-first integrated braking system, replacing a traditional system of electronic stability control (ESC) and brake booster for even more instantaneous braking responsiveness. The innovative electromechanical system improves braking performance through a faster increase in pressure and makes it possible to vary brake feel jointly with the Alfa DNA Pro system. As a result, this lightweight technological solution delivers new levels of brake response and stopping distance.

Alfa Stelvio DNA Pro Drive Mode Selector

Alfa DNA and Alfa DNA Pro drive mode selectors
Innovative Alfa DNA drive mode system and Alfa DNA Pro (Quadrifoglio exclusive) drive mode selectors modify the dynamic behavior of the vehicle, according to the driver’s selection:

  • Dynamic: delivers sharper brake and steering feel with more aggressive engine, transmission and throttle tip-in calibrations
  • Natural: comfort setting for balanced daily driving
  • Advanced Efficiency: eco-friendly mode to achieve the lowest fuel consumption
  • Race: exclusive to Alfa DNA Pro, this mode activates the over-boost function, opens up the two-mode exhaust system, turns ESC off and delivers sharper brake and steering feel with more aggressive engine, transmission and throttle tip-in calibrations

Thanks to the interaction with the Chassis Domain Control, Alfa DNA Pro instantaneously adapts car behavior to the selected driving mode
