2018 Fiat 500 Pricing Explored

Fiat has released pricing to dealers for its 2018 model lineup.  Manufacturer suggested list prices for the 2018 Fiat 500 Pop and Lounge models now equipped with the new standard turbocharged engine are up $1,245 compared to 2017 models that weren't turbocharged.  Destination charges for 2018 model year cars also rise and when you factor that in the difference is $1,500.

Suggested retail prices for 2018 Fiat 500 Abarth models go up $500 compared to last year. The 2018 Abarth remains the same as the previous year's model except for an added back up camera and color changes.

Fiat 500 Prices
The base 2018 Fiat 500 Pop, now standard equipped with a turbocharged motor starts at $17,490 with destination charges, or $1,500 more than last year's non-turbocharged Pop.

Breaking down the cost, the MSRP of the 2018 500 Pop is $16,245 compared to $14,995 for the 2017 500 Pop.  Destination charges for 2018 also rise to $1,245 compared to $995 for last year's fee.

Destination charges for 2018 model year cars are $1,245. 2017 model year cars were $995. Hawaii residents add $50 to these prices.

For perspective of where the pricing sits compared to the cars of previous years, if we look at the pricing of the $17,490 2018 500 Pop compared to the old 2016 500 Turbo (which is basically what the new Pop is) that was $20,695, the new car is actually a substantial $3,205 less. The prices of the 500 Pop when it was introduced in 2011 was $16,000, and the 500 Sport was $18,000, and those models didn't have a turbocharged engine and came with less equipment.

Two Millionth Fiat 500 Made in Europe

The two millionth Fiat 500 was made at the Tychy Plant in Poland last Thursday, the 10th of May. The Fiat 500 is a worldwide sales phenomenon being sold in over 100 countries. Over 80 percent of sales are outside of Italy. In Europe, the Fiat 500 has been a consistent best seller in the city car segment since its introduction in 2007.

Eleven years after its debut, the 500 had its best quarter ever this year, selling 60,000 units making it the market leader in nine countries ( Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Hungary, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, UK and Slovenia) and in the top three in seven others ( Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, and Sweden.).

The Fiat 500 for the European, Middle East, African as well as Chinese and Vietnam markets is produced at the FCA factory in Tychy, Poland. Cars sold in the NAFTA region, as well as South America, are built at FCA's Toluca, Mexico plant. Fiat's Tychy factory is one of Europe's largest and the most advanced. Additionally, Tychy is FCA's most productive European factory, and at peak production, one car rolls off the assembly line approximately every 46 seconds. Sheet metal stock can be converted into a finished car in under 12 technological hours.

For those of us on this side of the Atlantic and interested in the NAFTA Fiat 500, the factory in Toluca Mexico received a $550 million investment to upgrade and build our 500. Production of the NAFTA Fiat 500 began in December 2010 and to date, has reached 296,397 units. Fiat has sold a total of 237,681 500s in North America as of April.*

Fiat 500 Abarth One of Fastest Cars for the Money

Six years after its introduction, the Fiat 500 Abarth is still winning awards. This time the Fiat 500 Abarth made U.S. News & World Report’s 2018 list of “Fastest Cars for the Money.” According to the website, the list comprises of exciting vehicles that blend an affordable price tag with plenty of power, nimble handling, and fun-to-drive attitudes.

U.S. News & World Report says of the Fiat 500 Abarth:

"... excellent performance, a rockin' exhaust note, and a suspension setup that makes it a blast to toss around corners."

"The Abarth is named for legendary Italian Fiat tuner Carlo Abarth, who began tuning Fiat vehicles in the 1950s. He’s noted for his upgraded exhausts, which gave his cars a distinct sound. That tradition continues with the impressive rasp from the 500 Abarth’s 160-horsepower four-cylinder turbo."

Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition Coming Soon

Fiat announced there will be a new 500X edition out later this Spring. The new 2018 Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition features a large, dual-pane power sunroof along with satin-chrome exterior accents and unique blue interior trim. The car looks based on the European 500X "Mirror" edition which offers similar if not exactly the same trim and features.

Steve Beahm, Head of the Fiat Brand – North America describes the 500X Sky Blue Edition saying:

“With all-wheel-drive confidence, best-in-class torque and room for five, the Fiat 500X is fun to drive and wrapped in iconic Italian design. The new Blue Sky Edition offers yet another unique customization option for our Fiat 500X customers.”

The 2018 Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition comes with automatic headlamps, fog lamps and 17-inch aluminum wheels.

Satin chrome mirror caps, door handles, body-side moldings, fog-lamp bezels, front and rear badges, tail lamp bezels and liftgate handle complete the exterior look.

This is the European 500X "Mirror" edition's dashboard which features a color called "Denim Blue". It is likely that the US 500X Sky Blue dashboard will be the same. We will investigate this and let you know. UPDATE: We have gotten confirmation that the Blue Sky is based on the Mirror package and the dash and interior are the same.

The interior of the Blue Sky sports blue-toned trim with unique blue-patterned cloth seats, blue instrument panel and a dual-pane powered sunroof.

Another shot of the 500X Mirror edition's interior with blue trim. This should give a preview of what the Sky Blue's interior will look like.

The 2018 Fiat 500X Blue Sky Edition comes in four exterior paint colors: Blue Sky Metallic, Nero Cinema (Black Clear Coat), Grigio Graphite (Graphite Grey) and Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat).

The Blue Sky Edition package is available on Pop models for $1,495 for front-wheel-drive cars and $1,195 for all-wheel-drive cars. The 500X Pop models start at $19,995 and $23,890 U.S. MSRP, respectively, excluding destination.

Fiat Sales for April 2018

Fiat brand April sales numbers are in and show a 45 percent decline compared to the same month last year. In April, Fiat sold a total of 1,404 cars compared to 2,539 last year.   Sales of all models except for the 500L MPV were down last month, with 500 hatch and Cabrio models particularly having a rough month.  Production of these 500 models ended last September and what was once Fiat's best selling model is now scarce at dealers.  Production of the 2018 500 has begun and will arrive this summer, meaning the lack of cars will continue until then.

As mentioned, sales of all Fiat models were down except for the 500L MPV.  The versatile 500L has enjoyed a sales rally since last August and year-to-date are up 41 percent.

Fiat News for April
Fiat displayed the new, 2018 Fiat 500 Urbana edition at the NY Auto Show last month. The 500 Urbana is similar to the 500 Turbo of previous years. We have images of the Urbana and all the details, including the differences between it and the older 500T.
