October News Recap
The debut of the Fiat 500X crossover was October's biggest news. Fiat unveiled the 500X in a typically spectacular way at the Paris Motor Show. The Fiat 500X is slightly longer than the 500L MPV, but much sleeker with a sophisticated, elegant look. We should see the Fiat 500X crossover here in the US sometime next spring. We will be covering the US debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this month, so keep an eye on Fiat500USA.com!
Fiat SpA officially merged with Chrysler LLC and became Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). It is a new chapter in the 115-year-old Italian company's history and marks big changes. The official headquarters for the new company is now in the United Kingdom and the company has been incorporated in the Netherlands - all for tax and legal reasons. What this means is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is the seventh largest car company in the world and can bring consumers the best engineering and design talents from across two continents. Expect FCA cars to be sophisticated with designs that are never boring.
The end of an era. Fiat SpA stock certificates were traded in during October for newly issued Fiat Chrysler Automobiles stock.
October brought news is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will spin off its Ferrari supercar maker as a stand alone company. It will sell 10 percent of the legendary Ferrari company on the open market to raise capital to fund expanding the FCA lineup - specifically Alfa Romeo and other Fiat models. The remaining 90 percent will be distributed among current owners of FCA stock. The largest holder of Fiat stock is controlled by the Agnelli family, the heirs to the original founder of Fiat, so Ferrari will remain an Italian run company.
