Fiat 500 Celebrates 62nd Birthday

2019 Fiat 500 Birthday Celebration Lingotto

July 4th, 2019 marked the Fiat 500's 62nd birthday. To commemorate the occasion, employees of Fiat's Mirafiori plant and 500 owners who, with their cars arranged their them to form the words "HAPPY BIRTHDAY 500" on the roof of Fiat's famous Lingotto factory, in Torino.



Fiat traditionally has celebrations across Italy to celebrate its iconic 500 model, a car that allowed an average person in Italy and across Europe to have an affordable 4 seat passenger car. The Nuovo 500, born on July 4th, 1957, was produced until 1975 with 4 million examples sold. Fifty years later, on July 4th, 2007, the new 500 was introduced and quickly became a modern icon, receiving over 140 international awards and racking up 2 million sales during its first 10 years being on the market.

2017

In 2017, the Fiat 500 celebrated its 60th birthday with a tour of Turin and historic Fiat sites.


The Fiat 500 birthday tour starts off at the Fiat's Mirafiori plant (est.1939), travels to the Fiat Corso Dante factory (est.1900) which now houses Fiat's Historical Center and Archives, then passes by Palazzo Reale and ends at Fiat's Lingotto plant for a party on the roof of the factory. Fiat also marked the 2017 July 4th celebration with the news that the Metropolitan Museum for Modern Art in New York City would be displaying a 500 in their collection. In Italy, a commemorative stamp dedicated to the Fiat 500 was also unveiled.


2016



For the 59th anniversary, Fiat held a celebration on the Island of Capri. The location was chosen in part to highlight the new, limited production 500 Riva model.


2015




Fiat held events all over Italy starting the July 4th weekend to celebrate the 58th anniversary and to roll out the new, redesigned 500.


2010




The modern-day Fiat 500's 3rd birthday celebrated the 500's newly opened online store and the debut of the 500 TwinAir. The new model equipped with the revolutionary turbo two-cylinder engine boasted the lowest CO2 emission of any gasoline engine.


2009




For the 500's 2nd birthday, celebrations were held all over the world, and a video was produced. Represented in the video are festivities in Milan, Rome, Naples, Athens, Bruxelles, Tokyo, Berlin, Casablanca, Gdansk, Ljubljana, Copenhagen, Cyprus, London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Riga, Vienna, Volendam, Istanbul, Buenos Aires, and Johannesburg.

However, the big news was Fiat also debuted the new 500c Cabrio model.


2007
