Fiat sales for June are in and show a marked drop from the year before. Last year was a record year for the brand and so far Fiat is having a tough time matching that year's sales figures.
June sales of the Fiat 500 hatchback and Cabrio models were off 31% compared to the same month last year. Fiat sold 2,283 cars compared to 3,328 the year before. It should be noted that June 2014 was an especially good month for the 500. Sales of the 500 hatch and Cabrio models have been averaging 2,565 units per month so far this year compared to an average of 3,030 for the same period last year and 3,512 the year before.
Sales of the Fiat 500L which had been averaging about 1,100 per month posted a significant 53% drop last month - down to 530 cars. There was some good news, though. The Fiat 500X crossover has begun slowly trickling into dealership's lots and Fiat sold 324 of this highly anticipated car. With more cars arriving in earnest this month, we should see the model take advantage of the growing crossover market.
June was a tough month for many cars. According to the sales tracking site Good Car, Bad Car.com, of all the vehicles in the top 20, only six nameplates posted improved sales compared with June 2014. Low gas prices and a market that is favoring crossovers hasn't helped sales of smaller cars either.
