Abarth Legend - The Fiat Abarth 750 GT Coupe Zagato
Abarth has created legendary cars throughout its 60 years and each one has become a sought after classic example of performance and design. One such car is the Fiat Abarth 750 GT Coupe Zagato.
Jim "Mr. Fiat" Romano tells us the story of the Fiat Abarth 750 GT Coupe Zagato.
This Fiat 600 based car was a collaboration between Abarth & Co and the Zagato Works design company. With a body created out of aluminum and an engine featuring double the horsepower of the Fiat 600, the Fiat Abarth 750 GT Coupe Zagato was more than just a pretty face. The approximately 1,000 lbs car was offered with engines in excess of 100 HP - that is about 10 lbs per horsepower, which is equivalent to today's Porsche Cayman S. These specifications guaranteed typical Abarth outstanding performance and the Fiat Abarth 750 GT Coupe Zagato won numerous prestigious races including LeMans, the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio.
The white Coupe Zagato shown is owned by long time Abarth and Fiat enthusiast Jim Romano, better known as "Mr. Fiat". He has owned this car for 45 years and has a neat website devoted to his car and his ownership experience. Jim has been a great contributor to the Fiat 500 USA Forum and I would like to thank him for that, and also for preserving the story of this historic car.

Many Many Many thanks for the great article and the PR plug for "Her Majesty". A quick note, though. The white car carries approximately a hundred hp because it's a highly modified version of the Abarth OT engine. The original 750 Abarth Zagatos had about half that and still were very quick. The new 500 Abarth will no doubt be a terrific car. With a little luck, I'll own one. But I have to say, the old Abarths will indeed be a hard act to follow. Thanks again, Chris.
