Fiat at The 2022 New York Auto Show

The Fiat display at the 2022 New York Auto Show was a surprise this year. Currently, the only Fiat model sold in the US is the 500X crossover. However, Fiat showed up with two European-only Fiat 500 EVs to augment the sole 500X on display. This was a happy surprise for Fiat enthusiasts hungry to see these new models.

2022 Fiat 500X 

The Fiat 500X on display was the new Yacht Club Capri edition. For 2022, the Fiat 500X is available in four models - Pop, Trekking, Sport, and Trekking Plus. The biggest news for 2022 is the addition of a retractable, folding fabric roof top option and the limited production 500X Yacht Club Capri special edition model. Fiat has a tradition of making special edition models aimed at the well-to-do and fashion conscious buyer, and this classy car is loaded with exclusive trim.

Yacht Club Capri special edition is based on the 500X Sport trim and features:

• Venezia blue exterior paint
• Exclusive 18-inch sport wheels
• Unique blue Al-Fresco soft top
• Exclusive ivory leather seats with blue piping
• Exclusive woodgrain dash insert with satin-finished gear shift
• Yacht Club Capri exterior badging and satin-finished exterior trim

The Fiat 500X received a makeover in 2019, including a new engine that substantially enhanced the driving experience with more torque and better fuel economy over previous years. Compared to the competition, the 2022 500X has the best-in-class engine torque and fuel economy. The 500X 1.3-liter direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine achieves a 30 miles per gallon highway MPG rating in government tests.

2022 Fiat 500 EV 

Fiat displayed its 500 3+1 LaPrima and 500 RED versions. The 3+1 is a 500 with a third rear door on the passenger side that assists entry to the back seat. Two-door cars are coming out of favor as crossovers, and four-doors take over the market. The extra rear door gives improved access to the rear like the larger crossovers and 4-doors offer but keeps the weight down from having a fourth rear door. Fiat calls this the "magic door," and it doesn't change the car's dimensions.

The La Prima edition was the first edition model offered by Fiat in Europe. The La Prima comes with special equipment.

Fiat 500 (RED) Edition

The 500 RED version comes from the partnership with the organization called (RED) –  founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver and committed to combating pandemics for over 15 years. The car shown was a 500 Cabrio, which features a sliding fabric top.

 In keeping with (RED)'s core principles, the 500 (RED) edition has some noteworthy equipment:

 Air Cabin Filter, Seat Fabric, Steering Wheel Upholstery, and Trunk are all treated with a biocide substance with effective action (up to 95% at the time of the treatment') against viruses and bacteria, with prolonged protection over time.

Sanitizing Glove Box. A UV-C lamp inside the glove compartment helps sanitize the surface of the items exposed to it, such as phones, door keys, and other small everyday objects.
