New 2013 Panda 4x4 Debuts

New 2013 Fiat Panda 4x4

The new Fiat Panda 4x4 recently made its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Since 1983, the Fiat Panda 4x4 has been impressing off road fans with its rugged go anywhere capability. The new version takes those abilities and cloaks them in a new, refined package, making the Panda 4x4 one of the most versatile cars ever, regardless of size!

Watch this video and you will see why the Fiat Panda 4x4 has a world wide following.

The concept of the Fiat Panda 4x4 is to offer folks all the versatility and off road capability of traditionally larger SUVs but in a practically sized car that can fit anywhere. Engines offered are the 85 hp .9 L TwinAir and the torquey 75 Hp 1.3L MultiJet II diesel. The star of the range is the diesel with its 140lbs ft torque rating and 50mpg fuel economy.

The Fiat Panda 4x4 is a seriously capable vehicle!

To ensure the new Fiat Panda 4x4 lives up to the previous generations legacy, the permanent four wheel drive system features an electronic coupling that distributes drive torque to the axle with the most traction. Integrated with Electronic Stability Control (ESC) the system sports an Electronic Locking Differential (ELD) function that automatically transfers power from side to side to an individual wheel with the highest grip. Drive is via a six speed manual gearbox with an extra low first gear for starting off in difficult terrain.

Suspension is a MacPherson strut design in the front and a new Torsion beam axle in the back replacing a semi trailing arm design previously used in last year's Panda 4x4. Compared to the older car, this new rear suspension offers both comfort and the rugged flexibility needed in extreme off road settings.

The Panda 4x4 is differentiated from the normal Panda with unique trim and a more integrated tailpipe that is tucked closer to the body for protection from off road obstacles.

It has been rumored the new Fiat Panda would come to North America, but it is unlikely. However, there is a four wheel drive version of the new Fiat 500L that is in the works, so expect to see that in the coming future. Maybe this time next year?

Why on earth does Fiat not sell the FIAT Panda 4X4 in the US? It is beyond me! Who is at the Head of Marketing for Fiat? He should be fired for failing to seeing the enormous opportunity of a small, high efficiency SUV in the NAR market.
Someone else (KIA maybe) will come and do it before FIAT and will seep the market, while FIAT shares will remain struggling at $4.45!!!!

This would be perfect for America, saves gas yet still plenty of room. don't know why they would not sale them here.

What could possibly be the rationale for not selling the Panda in the US? I don't understand it.

Fiat is crazy not to sell the Panda 4x4 in the US.
I would buy one in a heartbeat. I want one!!!

Agreed! Bring it! Would love to own! Awesome little vehicle. Lots of room, high mpg, 4X4, Fiat Tech, etc. what's not to like. Agree with Lorenzo, some one in the marketing department is sleeping.

It is absolutely insane that we cannot get a Fiat Panda! 50 mpg and we can drive in the Northern winters in nearly any conditions? We NEED this! Why show us this? I found the perfect blue color on the website.... they don't even offer that color on any of the 500s. I LOVE FIAT! I bet the US automakers and the big oil companies are stopping it do to the great mpg! Who'd buy huge trucks, then?

If you want to know why the Panda isn't here, you have to look at all the government regulations that tack on thousands of $$$$ to the price and make the car impractical to sell at volumes that make sense. Much like it is nearly impossible for a small Ma and Pa boutique to afford the space in a huge mall, it is the same for car manufacturers to survive on models that don't sell in volumes (or for prices) that justify the expenses of manufacturing them. It is natural for them to want to sell the car here, but it has to make sense. When it does, they will.

Please, Oh Please let someone know that N America NEEDS this Fiat 4X4. I want a Fiat so desperately. In Northen winters around here, you can't rely on an ordinary car to get through the slush, ice, snow and whatever else nature throws at us. Plus, there are A LOT of places to go off-roading. The Fiat Panda that I saw had the most magnificent blue color I have never seen before! I wish that color were available here in the states. Thank you so very much! Connie Anderson, South Dakota

I completely agree with Chris. We live in a Democratic country with representatives that believe in Big Government. So much has changed since I was young. Hong Kong has very limited regulations and it is so easy to start up your own business. It works extremely well for them. Like I said before: I LOVE FIAT! I just wish there was cargo room. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 500L (it has 4 doors and some cargo room. I am not giving up hope for the Fiat Panda. I just wish they would rename it "Bear" instead. Thank you, Fiat.

Oh! I just read an article I found on Motor Trend's web site that the Fiat Panda 2014 is coming to NORTH AMERICA!
It will ONLY be released in CANADA!!!! We in the US are out of luck. The new head of Fiat North America is Jason Stoicevich. We've got to let him know that there is a great demand for that car here is the US. We need to band together and convince him.

I am looking forward to seeing what the "b segment" jeep will be like. Hopefully it will be like the panda but with some more wrangler like options like a removable tops and so on. Hopefully a cross between a panda and the old cj2a's.

yeah they want to push the fat ugly Fiat 500L on the public instead of the svelte good looking Panda. It is a long history of poor marketing and decision making by the big 3, it is the same reason no manufacturer makes a small economical pickup though the demand is huge.

Have to Agree with the bulk of the post here. Frankly the Panda should have been Fiat's first choice for the States? I mean the 500, it's OK , but there's big comp here in the small car market. Compare side by side the Panda comes up the winner vs. and the 500L and the 500L is already tainted here by mechanical issues. FIAT do the the right thing now and replace the 500L before anymore damage is done.

I love the Panda, too, but the question is how many folks will buy a Panda 4x4 for $20,000? They would love to sell the Panda here, too.

Remember, though, this is a very small car in a land where you can get a much larger car in the mid teens. To invest the hundreds of million of dollars on a car you need to make sure it will sell. You cannot survive selling low cost cars now. They cannot take a chance.

Also, the 500 and Panda use the same mechanicals and I wouldn't characterize the 500 being tainted with issues. Most problems I've heard about can be chalked up to first year bugs and annoyances.
